Brief Answer:
Please clarify your question

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Alzheimer is a type of dementia. It is demntia in which no specific brain pathology found out. CT or MRI scan reports are normal. It occurs after age of 65.

You mentioned that person 95 year old with demntia with four falls in 24 hours turns in to Alzheimer overnight! This is not clear to me.
Please clarify what is your exact question and what do you want to know.

From your sentence I understood that suddenly after falls diagnosis of Alzheimer how can be possible.

95 year old generally has weakness due to aging as well already diagnosed dementia(which might be Alzheimer's dementia itself, aricep-donepezil is going on). These both factors are responsible for fall. And after fall all investigations done which are normal and diagnosis of Alzheimer confrimed.

Waiting for your reply to help you further.

Just wondering how my mother who had dementia, knew my sister and I, and overnite after her falls she has full on Alzheimer’s and doesn’t recognize us. It just seems that she quickly had mentally deterioration after the falls and with all labs and X-rays being nl no one can explain this sudden onset of Alzheimer’s.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Sudden deterioration is possible, please upload reports

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

It is not at all sudden onset of Alzheimer. Her past dementia is likely of Alzheimer type.

Her fall suggests some ischemia of brain(transient ischemic attack - TIA). Considering her age she is prone to such problem. This is responsible for her deterioration likely. Forgetfulness is precipiated after the fall. So this may not be a new diagnosis. Her CT scan is normal so doctor has told that she had Alzheimer's and precipitated further.

You mentioned that she has dementia. Can you tell me her symptoms of dementia?Age of onset?

Does she have history of hypertension or other cardiac problem in past?

If feasible , please upload reports of CT,X-ray and laboratory. All in all it is extremely important to take extra care of her hence on.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
