Suggest Treatment For BP Of 104/56 And Low Hemoglobin Levels

Question: My husband is taking Xtandi and is getting an upper GI on Wed. He had low hemoglobin and started iron infusions last week. He is at times having trouble getting enough air and his blood pressure is now 104/56. Is there anything we can do now to make him feel better?

We are in the process of doing these things, the iron infusion is being doing every week over the next 5 weeks and the upper GI is investigating any bleeding. A blood panel was done last Tues and they are reviewing constantly. The problem is right now trying to make him comfortable. I've turned down the a/c which helps some but he is weak and listless. Is there anything that can be done in the interium to make him comfortable?

Brief Answer:
need to look at the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

If the hemoglobin is improving with iron, then we need to look at other causes. It may be a respiratory infection which is causing the shortness of breath and inability to move. Also, electrolyte abnormalities can cause these symptoms, like low sodium or high calcium.

I would recommend a complete blood panel, infection screen and chest x-ray at the bare minimum. Probably admission to the hospital is also required.

Once we can find out the cause, treatment by antibiotics and correction of electrolyte abnormalities can make him feel better.

Hope this helps. I will be available for followup.
Regards

Brief Answer:
probably the oxygen levels are dropping

Detailed Answer:
I understand that everything is being done. But his symptoms tell me that he is quite sick right now and will be better off at the hospital.

His oxygen level may be dropping which, if confirmed, will need supplemental oxygen therapy.
