Suggest Treatment For Bell's Palsy

Question: 4months of bells paulsey. 1st bout in dec. lasted1 month. i am diabetic and 69 years old.my eye tears alot and mouth drools and droops.Do you know of any new meds and or treatments. i am very sick of this and i need help . Should a neuroligist see me ?

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Bell's palsy refers to idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, but other conditions that may cause facial paralysis should be excluded too. ( cerebello-pontine angle mases, otitis media, etc.).

So, it is actually necessary to see a Neurologist.

Treatment, if other possible causes of facial paralysis are excluded and Bell's palsy is confirmed, consists on combination of prednisone-acyclovir use, eye care with topical ocular lubrication (with artificial tears during the day and lubricating ophthalmic ointment at night), botulinum toxin injection, external eyelid weights etc.
