Suggest Treatment For COPD When Diagnosed With Asthma

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: I have asthma. At one time a Dr. told me there was some medications I didn't need to take. An APN this week told me (for the first time) I had Copd and wrote me two prescriptions. I hesitated to take them without checking with someone else. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
It is not a good idea to use prednisolone whenever you see an attack coming

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the query and understand your concerns. Albuterol is a bronchodilator and does not need to be used continuously. Rather, it can be used when needed. I would not insist you to self medicate with prednisolone. Apart from reducing the inflammation, it also reduced the immunity and thereby makes you more vulnerable to such attacks. I would insist you to provide me a list of other medications you had been advised and I can guide you accordingly.

I would insist you to take steam inhalation. Water in form of vapor reaches deep inside and helps in diluting the thickened secretions which could precipitate such presentations, and thus provides relief.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
