Hi,
I went through the query and understood your concern.
COPD treatment depends on the severity of the problem. If you are not taking medications then the problem can reappear.
I want few information.
1. Since when you have COPD?
2. Are you symptoms free now without medications?
3. If you get symptoms what are the symptoms and their frequency.
These information will help us in fixing the dose and drugs.
So kindly provide more information on your health. I will be waiting for your reply.
Wish you good health.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Should take treatment to prevent symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Since you have symptoms now you need to continue advair which contain Fluticasone(steroid) and salmeterol(long acting beta agonist) on regular basis. This will help as controler. Once all the symptoms clear then you can stop this and check for symptom free days since you suffer once in a month.
The reliever drugs can be used in acute conditions when the symptoms reappear. The inhaler with combination of bronchodilators, anticholinergic agent like ipratropium with levosalbutamol a short acting beta agonist drug will help you maximum. You can try this as and when required (SOS) but not on regular basis. This will be helpful for acute management.
Prednisone also helps in acute condition and hence should be taken on SOS basis. So you can discuss based on this with your doctor and get the appropriate treatment for you.
I hope this information helps you in understanding the management of symptoms in COPD.
Feel free to ask for any further queries and I will be glad to answer them.
Wish you good health and faster recovery.
