Suggest Treatment For Crohn's Disease And Hepatitis

Question: My daughter has Crohn's Disease and she developed a mild case of auto-immune hepatitis. She has been started on Prednisone 20mg qd and Imuran 50mg qd. The pharmacy at CVS mistakenly filled the Rx for 20mg qid (80mg a day) the error was caught after 7 day because she ran out of pills( qty was 60 tablet).
She is doing ok after the dosage was corrected, although for a few nights she experienced excessive urination at night trying to sleep. Is this a something I should be further concerned about since the dosage was corrected after 7 days. I am a pharmacist 1981 graduate.

Brief Answer:
80 mg is high but tolerable
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern.
80 mg is high but tolerable if taken only for a week. Tapering the dose by 25 percent for the next week of prednisone , can be done , in consultation with your doctor to avoid side effects such as insomnia , mood instability etc A urine R/E and fasting blood sugar should also be done to exclude other causes of the symptoms.
dosing for Autoimmune hepatitis is 60 mg PO qDay for 1 week THEN 40 mg qDay for 1 week; so the dose by mistake wasn't in a toxic range and would be tolerated well if tapered properly.
Let me know if you have any query
thanks.
