Brief Answer:
Symptomatic treatment usual

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your question.

You are right in that the majority of wedge compression fractures at the thoracolumbar junction do not require any specific treatment other than pain relief. Occasionally I will give patients an off the shelf thoracolumbar support orthosis (TLSO) as this often helps with the pain but if you are comfortable then this is not a requirement.

Most surgeons will repeat X-rays at intervals to ensure that you are not developing a progressive kyphosis, this is a deformity in your spine because of the fracture. This is only usually a problem when there is very significant compression of the vertebrae.

You should avoid any bending or lifting for the next 6-8 weeks. Your pain may continue for a few months. Physiotherapy can help speed recovery.

I hope this answers your question.

Best wishes
