Suggest Treatment For GERD And Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Question: Hi,
i have been suffering from GERD (diagnosed about 5 years back) and been on pantaproazole medication for almost 5 years. Recently (about a few months) I have been having irratic bowel movements - constipation and/or diarrhea. Recently about 1 month, I am having dark stool (some parts - mostly at the beginning are very dark brown or blackish, some parts are normal brown) which are sometimes a bit mucusy. I donot have any major abdominal pains or anything, apart from some occasional discomfort. I also have some trouble with bowel movements. I have not lost any significant weight recently, and am kind of overweight atm (79kilos height:5.8feet). Please give me some advice. I am an XXXXXXX national male (24 years) living in Singapore

Brief Answer:
likely to be IBS
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through the details you have provided.
Your symptoms seem to be due to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Before definitely saying it is IBS, I would suggest you get a stool microscopy examination done along with blood ESR( erythrocyte sedimentation rate). ( in case these were not included in your blood workup)
If both these tests are normal then I would suggest taking a fibre supplement like psyllium husk along with a probiotic for 4 weeks.
Hope this helps.
Do get back in case you have further queries.

Hi,
I am unsure if esr was done along with blood work. Also, the test was done about 5 months ago. I am attaching my report. If I have to do some bloodwork, I will do them while I'm visiting XXXXXXX (after about 20 days), since it is expensive in Singapore :P.
