Suggest Treatment For HSV 1 Infection
Question: Hello, Dr. I was diagnosed with herpes 1 recently. I don't know when I contracted it. I have a family, with with two children. I am so concerned for them. Also, everybody tells me it is a common virus and i don't need to take too much stress but I can't help myself. Could you let me know if it is really a common disease with no life threatening danger or any other horrifying outcomes other than the blisters. Please help me. Stress will kill me before my death. Thank you very much. Also, is it still possible to have a healthy family with myself being like this. Is there a chance I can have a healthy (un infected) child if I plan to have one in the future. Please advice me. thank you.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you very much for posting your query.
HSV 1 Infection is a not a STD. Nearly 40-60% of poppulation would have been exposed to HSV 1 infection in any society. It is suh a common infecrion and never have any life threatening complications. Not to worry about this. It would not affect your future child, as long as it is confined to oral region which is the normal site of manifestation as far as HSV 1 infection is concerned.

Thank you for your help Dr. I have another confusion. The tester told me that while your HSV2 result is negative and your HSV1 positive, It does not mean you do not have HSV2, you may have both. The culture sample should be tested. My test was fourth generation IGg HSV1 and 2 with typing. Can I trust the accuracy of my test? Or I should agree with the tester. How can such a sensitive test like IGg fourth generation be wrong? I am relieved by the way to learn that HSV1 is not an STD and that is the very common cold sore which almost everyone gets (I don't know if you may agree). Thanks alot.

Brief Answer:
you had come across HSV 1 infection and not HSV 2
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
You are exactly correct. You don't have any STD. HSV 1 infection is nothing but cold sore that anybody can have and harmless. Your test reports are highly reliable and you are not having any STD.

Thank you very much Dr. for being so kind to answer. I have one last question. I have got this bump on my penis (picture attached) for a week now. It is not fluid filled blister nor a hard wart, is not painful and not itchy. I don't feel anything when I touch it. Do you think it can be HSV1 in the genitals. Is this typical of hsv1 or it may be something else.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Brief Answer:
The lesion is neither Herpes nor genital warts.
Detailed Answer:
HI,
Welcome back.
I saw the picture sent by you. It is neither Herpes simplex (HSV) infection nor genital warts. How long are you having the lesion? I t could be a scar of old healing ulcer or some localized lymph edema. It can be ignored. Otherwise consult a Dermato-venereologist nearby.
Nothing to worry much.

Thanks alot for the reply. I have been having it for some 10 days or more now. I just pointed out the exact lesion by an arrow. Could you kindly have look of it attached. I is not old healing, rather it appeared 10 days before only. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
It is neither Herpes nor warts.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXXXXXXXX,
Welcome once again.
Once again I affirm that the lesion does not look like Herpes or warts. It has a "Pu De Orange" appearance which indicates a localised lymphedema. It can be ignored after having a consultation with a Dermatologist.
