Suggest Treatment For HSV 2 Infection

Hsv 2 stays forever;may cause recurrences; recurrences decrease with time
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern.
Hsv-2 is an STI and a cause of genital herpes/ sores.
Infection with Hsv -2 is usually acquired by close contact with an Infected sexual partner. Upon acquisition, Hsv 2 virus travels up the cutaneous nerve supply to ultimately reside in regional spinal nerve root ganglion. Once acquired this virus stays inside body forever. It lays dormant in spinal nerve root ganglion.
The virus may reactivate and multiply from time to time and then travel down the cutaneous nerves to cause genital sores/ lesions.
Though Hsv 2 stays inside the body forever, frequency of Hsv 2 recurrences decreases with every passing year e.g typically Hsv 2 causes 4-6 episodes of genital sores in the first year after acquisition. This frequency decreases with passing years.

Herpes can be transmitted to your wife if not already is;I suggest lab test
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Yes, you can transmit herpes to your wife through sexual contact.
In fact your wife should be tested for genital herpes to ascertain whether she has been already infected with herpes or not. Herpes virus can remain clinicaly silent and therefore laboratory testing is the only way to ascertain if she is already infected Or not.
Risk of transmiting herpes is greatest during a clinical episode of genital herpes i.e from active sores of herpes and lesser during clinically asymptomatic phases. A condom decreases chances of transmission of genital herpes and therefore I would insist on regular use of condom.
Testing for herpes is all the more important for your wife to ascertain whether she carries this infection. This is because genital herpes has implications for newborn baby, considering the risk of neonatal herpes infection through vaginal delivery in mothers with genital herpes.

Genital Hsv2 in mother can be passed on to neonate during vaginal delivery
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
If you wife has genital Hsv 2 infection there is a risk of neonatal herpes infection during vaginal delivery specially if herpes is active at time of delivery. Therefore the need to test her for Hsv 2 infection. A cesarean section would be safer in that case to prevent neonatal herpes infection.
