Suggest Treatment For Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism In Child

Has to be on thyroid hormone replacement
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting the question. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
Ms XXXX is having Hashimoto's hypothyroidism - here her thyroid gland is destroyed by auto immune disease (high antibodies).
The treatment of this condition is thyroid hormone replacement - thyroxine - available as Thyronorm or Eltroxin. The dose depends on the weight of the child - approximately 2mcg per kg is the dose. Consult a pediatrician or Endocrinologist for starting the medications.
Hashimoto's hypothyroidism usually cause permanent hypothyroidism. So 95% she has to be on life long medications.
hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

No diet modifications are needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
No diet modifications are needed for Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. We give diet modifications only in iodine deficiency hypothyroidism ( eating iodised salt, sea foods and avoiding cabbage, cauliflower, tapioca etc).
Once started on medications we repeat thyroid function test after 6 weeks. If normal we do repeat tests every 3-6 months.
Once appropriately treated growth, development, menstruation, marriage, pregnancy, life span every thing will be normal.
Ask her family to stop worrying about the disease. Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism will affect around 15-20% of females in XXXXXXX This is just a hormone deficiency, she need to get it replaced with thyroxine.
