Suggest Treatment For IBS And Abdominal Bloating Along With Dizziness

Answer given below
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Bloating/gas are known features of IBS. These symptoms can also occur if you have gastroparesis ( slow functioning of stomach) and bowel infection.
Check your blood glucose levels as diabetes is one of the causes for gastroparesis. Also get a stool analysis done to rule out infection.
The following may be done for relief -
1. T.Rifaximin 400 mg 1-1-1 for 2 weeks
2. C.VSL #3 1-0-0 for 4 weeks
3. T.Librax 1-0-1 for 4 weeks
4. Low FODMAP diet

Thank you very much for your advice. May I please ask:
1. Will T.Rifaximin kill the good bacteria in C. VSL #3 when taken together?
2. I have actually been on T.Rifaximin for 6 days and these couple of days, have been feeling more bloated/ gassy than usual. Would it be the die-off effect of bacteria?
3. Before I can get a stool test done, could you kindly advise what symptoms I may experience or see in my stool that could be an indication of bowel infection?
Many thanks for your help again.
Warm regards, XXXXXXX

I neglected to ask, could you also please advise why I feel dizzy when I have a bloated tummy? What is the relation between my head and my tummy?
Thank you again, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
No Rifaximin can be taken along with VSL #3.
The bloating is not due to Rifaximin. Continue taking it.
You may have any of the following symptoms if you have bowel infection -
1. Abdominal pain
2. Abdominal bloating
3. Loose stools
4. Increased flatulence
Abdominal bloating does not cause dizziness. You need to be examined for knowing the cause of dizziness.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
