Brief Answer:
Foods may change the color of the stool to dark color.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

You are in an age where it is not common to have a peptic ulcer and bleeding from the GI tract.
It is very frequent that the color of the stool changes because of food changed. So the first thing to think about is if you have eaten foods that contain Iron like broccoli, beads, Iron supplements, ect.
If not, then you will need to go to the ER so they can do an abdominal ultrasound, a fibroscopic exam and if needed a stool for occult blood.

Blood in the stool looks very very dark, like petroleum though. Anything less darker, most probably is just food.

If you cannot go there anytime sooner, I would suggest that you try taking a pill that will help you with the stomach pain like Ranitidine 150 mg or Omeprazole 20mg, once/day, before food.
Avoid acidic foods, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and smoking.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
