Suggest Treatment For Lichen Schlerosis

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: I am a 72 yr. old female who has been diagnosed with Lichen Schlerosis recently. I have seen a gynecologist and a week ago a dermatologist who has prescribed Clobetasol 0/05% ointment to be applied topically twice a day. I have had no relief and feel it is getting worse. It is like walking with razor blades between my legs. The pain is excruciating. I suffer from hypertension which is treated by my primary physician and kept in check. What do I do short of going to an ER but what can they do for me there? It is not life threatening but I do not know what my next step to do is to get relief. Is there a cure? I live in Attica, Ohio.

Brief Answer: oral steroids Detailed Answer: Hello Lichen sclerosis cannot be cured. It can only be controlled. Clobetasol is good enough however if it not getting controlled then oral steroid will be best option. Discuss with your dermatologist to start oral steroids. Another option is immunosuppresants like azathioprine. Discuss with your dermatologist and let me know. Thank you
