Sunscreen and pigment reducing creams
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
You seem to have Melasma.
Melasma presents as patches of pigmentation on face, particularly malar area/cheeks, dorum of nose.
Sometimes forehead and upper lip may also be affected.
The cream that you have been using is a potent steroid and is not to be used on face. It is not a treatment for melasma.
Home remedies too would not provide any significant improvement in melasma.
Sunscreen is an essential part of treatment in melasma.
I suggest you to use a broad sunscreen throughout the day.
A sunscreen with spf 30 or more is considered broad spectrum and would be suitable for use.
Neutrogena Ultrasheer dry touch sunblock has an spf of 50 and can be obtained OTC from a nearby drug store.
It should be reapplied every 2-3 hours.
At night you may use a pigment reducing cream containing one or more of the following active ingredients like kojic acid, hydroquinone, glycolic acid, arbutin, tretinoin, fluocinolone acetonide etc.
The mechanism of action of these active ingredients is either inhibition of synthesis of new pigment Or exfoliation of existing pigment Or both.
Apart from the topical treatment you may also opt for a few sessions of glycolic peeling from a dermatologist.
