Suggest Treatment For PTSD And Bipolar Disorder
Insomnia started so I offered the sleep aide on Friday incrementally starting at 6 AM - 1pm. In total he had 175mg of his Hydroxide but it did not work. At 5:30 pm I offered the emergency Zyprexa 15mg as he was starting to experience symptoms of paranoia and concerning anxiety. He took the Zyprexa and fell asleep in 40 minutes and lasted for 14 hours. Today he has been having some signs of anxiety still and a little paranoia gave the 50 mg tablet of hydroxzine at 1pm and progressively calmed down laid down at 5:30 but not asleep but resting. I haven't heard from XXXXXXX provider about the appointment so I am not sure if I am supposed to give a full 15mg of zyprexa or is it ok to give half of it, he hates it, or if he is ok to have just taken that one dose. Please give some clarification on how to use it as I was told for emergency use as it was some time ago so I can;t remember if it was give once to ground him and stop or to ween after the first pill. I know he will likely get in with his doctor on Tuesday if not Monday. BUt I need to know if I have to give another before then. Thanks

Hello, and thanks for your question.
Your son is experiencing the beginnings of a manic episode, which is a psychiatric emergency. He needs immediate and full treatment with a mood stabilizer plus a second generation neuroleptic. You have once piece of this, Zyprexa, which needs to be given daily at 15mg. He also needs treatment with a mood stabilizer such as lithium, which is a natural element. The bottom line is he needs immediate psychiatric care. I would give Zyprexa 15mg now.

While I understand he may have a phobia, this is a bit like not taking him to the hospital with a broken leg because he has a phobia of hospitals. This is an emergency that needs immediate treatment in a controlled setting. I think if he wakes up and is not better he needs to go to the hospital immediately.
