Posted on Thu, 13 Apr 2017
Question: I have not been successful in understanding the conditions I have asked before - (1) RLS I am using Magnilife Cream an also Hyland Restful Legs together - but the remedy is not long lasting - I take Mag-Ox and Calcium daily = I also have a Hip problem with increasing groin pain. Cracking and creaking of mostly the right side lower body - and also cracking of the spine area when adjusting position in bed. Is this cracking a permanent affliction - Will Hip Replacement be the resolve - I am caregiver to my husband (87) with Dementia and no way can I be down for the length of time for Hip Replacement - I have had two cortisone injections.

Brief Answer:
It is necessary to find the cause of RLS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthCareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Restless legs syndrome is sometimes linked to conditions such iron deficiency, peripheral neuropathy and kidney diseases.

In these cases, treatment of these conditions helps in reducing symptoms of restless legs too.

Medications that you are currently taking only improve symptoms temporary, drugs such Requip, Mirapex, Gabapentin, etc. may result in good results in controlling symptoms longer.

Hip replacement is an issue to address quickly because, with time, progression of this condition may result in serious disability.

It can result in damages of your spine too, because the difficulty walking and incorrect body position.

Cracking of joints, if not accompanied by pain, not necessarily mean anything significant.

In case there is pain involved too, arthritis should be considered.

Cortisone injections and supplements of calcium and magnesium, that you are taking, could improve your condition, but only temporary.

In conclusion, in my opinion, getting evaluated further about the cause of the restless legs syndrome, starting a treatment and hip replacement are necessary to improve your overall condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Would Kidney problems show up in an annual bloodwork or what symptoms should be apparent before the condition would be recognized . I have not had a urine sample test for at least two years. What is your opinion of homeopathic products??
What are the downsides of the drugs you mentioned above. Some drugs have a very negative effect (sleep walking) is one that comes to mind. Thank you for your prompt and very useful answer to my concerns. Dolores May

Brief Answer:
Appropriate blood tests are necessary for kidney function.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for being on follow up.

Appropriate blood tests and done recently are necessary to evaluate correctly kidneys function.

A year is a long period to be sure about that blood test accuracy.

Both, homeopathic remedies and medical drugs may result in adverse effects.

Dopamine agonists may result in insomnia, nausea, vomitng, pain in different body parts, lightheadedness, twitching, etc. in few people who use them as side effects, some people don't experience any side effects at all.

Homeopathy or normal medicine, the main goal is to improve your symptoms and condition.

If you feel that homeopathic remedies give you enough relief, you should go on with it.

If no sufficient improvement, I think you should consider to use appropriate drugs.

Hope I helped you.

Kind regards.

Osteopenia - Osteoporosis are also to be taken in consideration of a total Hip Replacement surgery - -do these bone deficiencies add to the complexity of the surgery? There are days with virtually no pain - and other days with much pain.
What in your opinion is the length of time for recovery.

Brief Answer:
Osteopenia is a contraindication for hip surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Osteopenia, or severe osteoporosis are contraindications for total hip replacement surgery.

Steps to improve bone density should be taken before surgery and should be continued after it.

So, in my opinion, for now you should delay hip replacement surgery and discuss with your Orthopedic surgeon about being treated about osteopenia (biphosphonates, Prolia, Forteo).

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
They promote bone mineralization.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Drugs mentioned above are used to promote bones mineralization.

Possible side effects include joints and muscles pain, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, skin problems, etc.

Cracking of bones normally should improve after osteopenia/osteoporosis treatment.

Again, in my opinion, osteopenia should be corrected before ortho surgery.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
