Suggest Treatment For UTI And Constant Urge To Urinate
Question: hi
I have had three urine infections over the past year and a half with the last one being in February of this year. I had been on about 3 different anti biotics. I have been tested for left over cystitis, chlamydia, bacterial vaginoisis and yeast and they were all negative however I have this burning in my urethra which normally gets better the more I urinate and can have good days with hardly any burning at all. on my period and at ovulation the burning is constant I have some urge to urinate in my urethra when my bladder is empty but once it fills the pain usually goes away I go to the toilet about 7 times a day sometimes less and I have no trouble sleeping what I am really worried about is having interstitial cystitis. do you think this is possible

As I read your description of your problem I do agree with you that interstitial cystitis is a possible diagnosis for your current problems. I would recommend that you see an urologist to have a cystoscopy done with biopsies to see if you have IC. Since IC is a diagnosis of exclusion your urologist may need to perform other tests to exclude the more common problems like endometriosis and urinary tract infections.

We are not sure what causes IC so everyone reacts differently to treatment. So we can never predict what someones future is going to be like. treatments include bladder training with holding urine to the very last minute to help stretch the bladder, They can do instillation of lidocaine or DMSO and sometimes they inject the bladder with steroids or Botox.
So before we decide what your future holds lets first make sure you have IC. Please see a urologist and have them help you with your bladder issues

So I would have you work on reducing your anxiety either through medications like alprazolam or citalopram, or cognitive behavior therapy. You could talk to your primary care provider and see if they would treat your anxiety just temporarily with medications until you see your urologist.

is it possible that IC would be caused by anxiety and that once that was resolved my symptoms would stop? I have a history of ocd and at the moment this is what I'm obsessed with. is urethral syndrome different to IC

well the problems are always in my urethra not in my bladder. can urethral syndrome get worse over time if this is possibly what I have
