Question: A breath Test-carbohydrate-hydrogen & GI transit study was ordered BEFORE Enterography Single Phase CT came back with some mild thickening of the wall of short segment of the mid transverse colon (series 3/85, series 2/136). Mild pyelocaliectasis. Mildly lobular contour of the upper pole of the right kidney - otherwise normal right kidney 11.2 cm left 12.cm in length on the 13th of October . On the 9th of October the kidneys measured right 10.7 cm left 11.8 cm by ultrasound. She doesnt have constipation or diarrhea. Do you think breath test and GI study needed?

Brief Answer:
Must know clinical symptoms...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

- Your CT scan report concluded "mild pyelocaliectasis" with mild stasis of the kidneys. It might indicate infection of the urinary tract with no calculus present.
Inflammation of colon is also noted (mild thickening of the wall).

- I must know what problems your daughter is having:
abdominal pain?
bloating ?
heartburn?
or what other problems?

before determining whether she needs the other GI tests.

By the way:
- Breathe Test-carbonate-hydrogen is a testing to evaluate bacterial overgrowth and lactose intolerance
- GI transit study will evaluate for how long does it take for the food to empty the stomach and pass through her intestines and colon. Obstacles or obstruction can also be determined.

Hope it helped!
