Suggest Treatment For UTI With Fungal Infection Of Vagina
Question: Hi,
My girlfriend have similar symptoms as UTI, but no bacteria is present in her urine - after two tests. It all started monday last week with what seems to be a yeast infection. She took Monostat, and it made it all worse with a burning and itchy sensation in the vagina, the day after she began having frequent urination (4 times per hour), swollen abdomen, pressure at the abdomen, and thirst/dry mouth. She went to the Dr, they took a urine sample and prescribed nitrofurantoin to her, which she took for 3 days (over a weekend). She also received diflucan which relieved the local symptoms in the Vagina. The other symptoms were persistent. Monday her doctor called her and said the urine test were negative and that she had to come in again. She came in, he took a new urine sample, prescribed Ciprofloxacin for her and sent her to an ultrasound. The ultrasound images were all fine (taken over the area where the bladder, urethra and kidneys sit), again there was no traces of bacteria in her urine. The area of her back were the left kidney is located have been sore a couple of times during this. She has been taken the Ciprofloxacin for 3.5 days, after 1.5 days her symptoms began relieving, now she is only swollen in the pelvic area right were the bladder is located, she is peeing 1-2 times per hour, and still feels she can't empty her bladder completely, and she's still feeling thirsty/having dry mouth.
My question is what can this be? Her Dr (nurse practitioner) does not seem to have a single clue! Is it possible that all this can be related as an AE to the Monostat?
Many thanks in advance for your response,

Brief Answer:
She is having UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
It is unlikely to be due to monostat..
She is having UTI with fungal infection of the vagina.. Get a vaginal swab for culture and sensitivity..
Ask her to drink lots of oral fluid.. Include lots of watermelon juice, lime juice and orange juice in the diet.. Continue the course of antibiotics based on culture sensitivity of the urine sample..
For vaginal infection, application of clotrimazole ointment locally in the area for itching and pain.. The problem will resolve in a week's time..
Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. Good day..
