Question: Hi I was diagnosed with Vestibular neuronitis after I woke up dizzy around Christmas time. Now it's been almost three months but I still have a dizzy type of feeling. I started to go to physical therapist and he sees some improvement. I don't think it could be anything else bad because I am a body builder and yet I'm still lifting with no weakness or weird feelings other than in my head. anyways my question is I have done some reading and it says that adivan can help the dizzy feeling but shouldn't be taken a lot because it can slow the process of compensation of the brain. I take celexa for my anxiety disorder every day. Would celexa also slow up the compensation process of the brain like adivan will?
Brief Answer:
Stop celexa and adivan. Do rehab exercises.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In my opinion your treatment for vestibular neuronitis with adivan(lorazepam) is correct.
This is a benzo dia ze Pam drug so it may slow the central compensation.
along with this you are taking celexa(citalopram hydrobromide) it is a anti depressant drug used to treat depression.
But DIZZINESS IS THE SIDE EFFECT of CELEXA.
That is the reason for your dizziness symptom to persist.
It doesn't have much impact on central compensation.
However it is a seretonergic drug so known to improve the neuronal transmission in brain.
This drug is given for 6 to 8 weeks . there should be a clear indication for its prolonged usage.
I would suggest you to consult your doctor and discuss on stoppage of the drug celexa.
And then do vestibular rehabilitation exercise for 6 weeks. I think this will improve your health condition.and reduce dizziness.
