Brief Answer:
Lipoma is the most likely cause here...

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care question.

You are concerned about a lump on the inner thigh that is not painful. The most common causes of lumps on the lower extremities are lipomas or sebaceous cysts. Pictures will not usually help in making a diagnosis. Only feeling the lump will help.

The feeling of a lipomas is that of a squishy lump with indiscrete edges. It is usually deeper in the skin and the overlying skin is not attached to the lump. A sebaceous cyst is usually more firm and has distinct edge and when pinched the overlying skin is attached to the lump.

For either lesion we do not recommend removal. They are completely benign and do not require treatment.

Brief Answer:
Sarcoma very rare

Detailed Answer:
Sarcomas are very rare and are not found just under the skin. They are tumors derived from muscle and would not usually be found in this manner.

No I don't think you have a sarcoma.

Does this type of cyst usually have a head? My bump is skin color and i cant see a opening of any kind. I just hope its not a sarcoma but you already said highly unlikely. I am actually getting it taken out today. I am nervous about anything cancerous. What would a hard bump feel like? Rocks, bone, ect? I know cancerous bumps are somewhat hard but is hard in terms of bumps? Mine like i said is firm and rubberish in feeling. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Some information on Cysts

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for returning to HCM with you questions.

A sebaceous cyst can sometimes have a head or become infected and produce an abscess. Since your lump feels slightly rubberish that is usually benign and more than likely a cyst. I am glad to hear that you are seeing your physician today but I can really assure you that you do not have a sarcoma.

Sarcomas are derived from connective tissue and from bone. They are very rare and usually occur in children and young adults. You are basically already too old to have a sarcoma. The sarcomas are painless lumps that continue to grow and cause pain when they get big enough to press on nerves.

Thank you for you quick response. You said I was almost to old for sarcoma but i have found that all ages can get sarcoma young and old. Is it just more prevalent in yonger people? I am just scared but ae sarcomas that are smaller than 4cm and superficial rare? Also it is not deep in my leg so i hope thats a good sign. I think the c word scares me so that why i keep adking about this. Can some lipomas be harder than others? I hope its just a cyst but will find out today. I have had one gp say cyst or lipoma and dermo say he thinks lipoma.

Brief Answer:
Physical examination is needed

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for returning to HCM

We are all concerned about cancer and it's effect on us. You are right that sarcomas are found in all age groups but are more prevalent in the young adults and children because they are actively growing. During this active growing phase the tumor cells are stimulated and grow rapidly. In adults there is very little if any growth and our connective tissue is stable therefore less chance of sarcomas growing.

I am glad to hear that you will be seeing a doctor today. The doctor can better decide what your lesion is when they actually touch it. Trying to diagnose this over the internet is really impossible even if you send pictures. Your doctor hopefully will answer all your concerns today but if you have any further questions please contact us again.
