Suggest Treatment For A Red Bump At The Back Of Left Thigh

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: Hello! Five times since January I've gotten a bump on the back of my left thigh, toward the outside and mid-way between knee and buttocks. It is when I get up from bed or after a nap. It feels hard and is a dull red / looks like a bug bite and kind of hurts. It is always in the same place. It goes away once I am up. It might be a blood clot of some kind, is what I'm thinking. It seems to go away completely after a while, but now I got it twice this week. I am 52 years old. My father died in his early 60's after a stroke. I was thinking I will go see my GP during his drop in hours on Monday. ?What do you think? And can a blood clot appear and disappear like this?

Brief Answer:
SVT with Thigh Perforator / Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
HI Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query and your health concerns in context to the updated picture of the red bump on back of left thigh.
My Impression-
You mostly seem to have -a incompetent perforating thigh vein at that location- which is causing thrombotic clot with engorged Varicose tributary in that location-when you get up after nap.
This leads to a hard red lump(SVT-Superficial Vein Thrombosis) from the formed blood clot in incompetent engorged vein in the back of your left thigh.

The recurrence of the hard red lump, rules out the bed bug bite and hence is out of question .
Do's Suggested-
Consult Vascular Surgeon or General Surgeon who would resolve the issue after USG and Color Doppler study of leg veins.

Hope this reply would resolve your worry and anxiety with your query.

Hope this discussion with the replies above would help you to plan further treatment with your doctors there, to resolve your case .

Thank you, Dr. Savaskar! For your reply. It is much appreciated.

One follow-up question. Generally speaking, is this something condition something that is potentially life-threatening? What I mean is, will it move in my body to my lungs or brain? Or will this type of condition stay put in its location and be an annoyance until I can really cope with it?

I definitely will go see my General Practitioner on Monday, who is an Internal Medicine specialist, and ask him to look at it. But I am leaving on Tuesday to go traveling for a while. I will be away from my home town for as long as three months. And again, I will go see my doctor. And it's only Friday night here and two long days ahead of anticipation until Monday.

My doctor, I am sure, will refer me to a heart and circulatory specialist but I will be away, as I said, and also, it can take a long time to get in for an appointment.

I am looking for a gauge from you as to how alarmed I should be. Obviously it will not resolve on its own and I realize this.

Thank you for answering this last inquiry. I really appreciate your time!

Warmly, XXXXXXX XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Welcome 24 x 7 during your Vacation too !!

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your update question .
Appreciate your thanking gesture.

My Impression and Comments-

On Review of your health issue with the update queries, there were 5 episodes of red lumps in last 3 months time since January. Hence you should be caring it on priority. Keep ME updated during Vacation for any health issues,as the Vacation is long for 3 months time as submitted by You.
Good thing is that your body is taking care in resolving it in all the 5 events.

But I would need more details- on your lipid profiles and body weight/ height details / and the dietary styles, to gauge and guide you on how alarmed you should be?-a very challenging question to be answered -especially in absence of above information.

Do's Suggested-during Long Vacation-(Preventive)

But in general, the things need to be cared as follows- to prevent emergencies over next 3 mths time, while on Vacation.
Take Plenty of fluids
Rest and Elevation of both legs- While Sleeping- as this is the period during which the congested Veins from activities over a days strain, develop clots..

Be on Garlic / Zinger /Lemon /Kiwi/ Berries juice with 1 tsf Turmeric Drinks -x 2 times a day, that will keep you away from recurrent clotting..

Have more of Capsicum /Chilies in curry form or as Spicy foods,if you can -repeat 2 times a day as a special curry recipe.

Avoid foods like -Brocoli/ Kale/Spinach/Cabbage.

Use Venous Stockings -During the Day time to control the Venous insufficiency and Varicosity of Veins-which would otherwise increase the clotting chances overnight, from engorged incompetent Veins.

With these precautions you can Enjoy your 3 months long Vacation.

Replies to your special update queries-

Q-1-Generally speaking, is this something condition something that is potentially life-threatening?
Ans-1-If not cared soon, as early as possible, it could be alarming with potential risks from Clot formation and its floating to vital organs like heart and brain.

Don't be panicky about the life risks-,if you take care as suggested above, during upcoming 3 months long Vacation.

Q-2-What I mean is, will it move in my body to my lungs or brain?

Ans-2-With no caring and with high stressful standings causing more venous engorgement and more chances of Clot formation in the incompetent veins-where the blood stagnates, chances are there that this clot in the veins would move to lungs / brain / heart, and is hence risky.

But for this to gauge, I would suggest-precautions and assessment of Venous incompetence /Insufficiency, by USG and Color Doppler Studies of the left and right leg Deep Venous System, which is the possibility- in your case.

Hence you should get the USG/ Color Doppler to rule out the Deep Vein Thrombosis, which could not be ruled out currently with the present complaints.

With the meticulous following of the precautions as suggested above, you could postpone the ill effects and that's why all these PREVENTIVE Suggestions for your long Vacation are given herewith.
But Don't Go Panicky with this.Take CARE as told above and Enjoy your long Vacations.
Avoid any trauma /or blunt injuries to legs during this period.

Q-3-Or will this type of condition stay put in its location and be an annoyance until I can really cope with it?

Ans-With the above preventive suggestions- the condition can be kept under control or stay put, without aggravating it during the Vacation period.

Hope these replies and suggestions would help you to come over your anxiety before going on to long 3 months Vacation.

Also this would guide you to plan further medical care in timely manner, with the help of doctors there.

Welcome 24 x 7 to resolve your case,I would love to help you out in time to come...!!
