Im worried about cancer. And only because i always fear the worst. Im having slight abdominal discomfort, sometimes painful intercourse. My last pap was almost 2yrs ago and my results came back crystal clear, as well as the ones before that one. But what keeps me away from the dr is fear that they will find something really bad. I do have hpv, but havent had an abnormal pap in about 6yrs
Brief Answer:
Pain is normal quality and characteristic of life
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Abdominal pain/discomfort and painful intercourse are unlikely related to cancer or tumors. Unfortunately, these symptoms could be related to a variety of different diseases. You should see a OBGYN and get a repeat pap smear with HPV testing, as well as to identify the issues causing pain and discomfort.
There are many people with your similar concerns of something being wrong with them. Pain is a normal process and characteristic of life, and usually pain a benign process. However, you should follow up with OBGYN to ensure that nothing is wrong because occasionally there are issues that need to be addressed. You doctor can preform a variety of tests and exams to help you.

What are other causes for pain such as the kind im feeling?
Brief Answer:
See list below
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Painful intercourse is a result of organic, emotional, or psychogenic causes. Other causes could polyps, adhesions, fissures, dryness, infections, inadequate lubrication, disorders of the vagina/cervix/uterus, masses/tumors, fibroids, endometriosis, constipation, hemorrhoids, urinary tract infections, urethritis, anxiety, depression, fear, abuse, endocrine diseases.
It needs to be differentiated from when it happens, where the pain is (superficial or deep), present at all circumstances, and/or happens with specific situations.
You need a complete exam including pelvic exam, cultures, pap smear, psychological screening, pregnancy test, and ultrasounds of the uterus.
You can try lubricants, sitz baths, probiotics, high fiber diet (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, bran) in the meantime.

De XXXXXXX i am certainly not pregnant. My husband had a vesectomy after our second child. I had an ultrasound where anfunctioning cyst was found. I have delt with bad doctors in the past and it is now extremely difficult for me to have any sort of procedure done without tensing up and making things worse for myself. The last doctor i saw told me the same thing, that this is in my head. Im not quite sure how i feel about that considering the pain i feel, is very real
Brief Answer:
Probably endometriosis if you had an inconclusive work up
Detailed Answer:
I am not doubting that your pain is not real. I am saying that you should get a full work up to figure out what is causing your pain and discomfort. I have listed multiple different causes of abdominal pain and painful intercourse. It could be a combination of two of them or it could be one of them causing the pain. Regardless, you should still see a doctor to get a full work up. I have dealt with pain before and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. So I feel your pain.
If you have had a full work up that was inconclusive, this pain is Most likely because by endometriosis. Endometriosis is one of the most common causes of abdominal pain and painful intercourse. The diagnosis is very difficult and usually requires a surgical intervention.
