Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain While On Oral Antibiotics

Question: my husband is experiencing lower abdominal pain and black stools. He is 70 years of age and in general good health. He had a really bad bout of diverticulis last year; after 6 weeks of oral antibiotics, he was hospitalized for 3 days of IV antibiotics. We are currently under a great deal of stress. Our daughter went throufh a divorce, and is loosing her home to foreclosure in about 2 weeks. we are using our good credit to buy her a house, that she will then pay rent to us. Her 17 year old daughter totaled her car, so new transit is needed too, since she relies on her daughter to take her siblings where they need to be, now that she is working full time for the first time in 17 years.
My question is, could his symptoms be stress related, or should he go to one of the community clinics nearby to have it checked out?
We live in XXXXXXX but our daughter is remaining in her current Florida zip code so the children do not have to change schools. of course my husband's doctors of record are in XXXXXXX
Thanks

Brief Answer:
You should go to community clinic for few basic tests.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Firstly sorry for your problem.
I hope they will settle down soon.
As per your query most likely the pain is not because of stress it can be a minor attack of diverticulitis. A test for stool routine and microscopy and ultrasonogram abdomen should be done to rule out fresh attack of diverticulitis. As the color of stools is black, stool should be tested for occult blood.
I would strongly recommend you to go for the above mentioned tests to rule out possibility of diverticulitis to prevent admission or any emergency condition.
I hope I answered your query well.
Follow up questions are welcome.
