Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Soreness

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jun 2017
Question: I have lower abdominal soreness. I have to take a laxative and only liquefied passes. Cannot pass gas. Yesterday made a rubber gloved exam and felt an opening within 5 inches. This morning had to do same to release gas & small amounts of intestinal fluid. Have been unable to get an appt right away with my GP. Suspect blocked bowel, telescoping intestine. What is the doctor's specialty name that I need to see & how may I find a reputable Dr.?

Brief Answer:
Impaction of stool.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear,
Thank you for choosing this forum for asking your query.
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns.
As per your question-
You need to see a Gastroenterologist for your problem. You can visit any tertiary or quaternary care hospital in your vicinity.
Most likely you are suffering from impacted stools.Theoretically it means accumulation of stool into a large, hard and dry mass within the lower part of the large bowels i.e. rectum and sometimes extending into the sigmoid colon. As the stool is impacted strong intestinal moments try to move the impacted stools this over straining of intestine leads to soreness of involved area causing tenderness in abdomen and spasmodic pain.
The impacted mass of stools is acted upon by a number of bacteria's living in our intestines.Incomplete fermentation leads to formation of large quantity of gases causing severe bloating belching etc.As the formed gas apply pressure on the inflamed area pain and soreness increases.Take omeprazole 40mg once daily to provide symptomatic relief in bloating. However as constipation will improve impaction of stools will improve so problem of gas will be solved automatically.

Suggestions-
Initially i would recommend you to go for manual extraction of stool-A lubricated, gloved index finger is inserted into the rectum and the hardened stool is gently broken up using a scissoring motion otherwise you can try polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution enema. It will clear up the impaction.
After that start taking a laxative like Polyethylene glycol daily once before going to bed.
Isapghul husk two tsf soaked in half cup of XXXXXXX warm water should also be taken. It's a natural stool softner and help to lubricate passage of stool.

A colonoscopy can be done to rule out any significant pathology.
Drastic life style changes should be followed along with medications-
Do exercise in morning for at least 30 minutes.
Drink a glass of XXXXXXX warm water before going to loo in morning.Water increases lubrication and hence prevent stool hardening and impaction.
Eat a bowl of banana every day.
Try to take 30-35 grams of fibers in your diet.
Take a probiotic like econorm daily.
Take food rich in pre and probiotics.
Add lot of veggies to your food.
Cut down meat, fats, junk food and spices.

Eat simple home cooked and healthy food.

Hope i was helpful,Feel free to ask follow ups.
Thank you and wish you great health.
