Suggest Treatment For Abscess In Abdomen Around Appendix

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Apr 2014
Question: Had laparoscopic surgery 2 weeks ago to remove abscess in abdomen around appendix and inflamed appendix also removed. Wore a drain for 11 days and it has also been removed. Had night sweats prior to surgery but the sweats have persisted ever since, although to a somewhat lesser degree. Blood works shows no infection and not running a temperature. Will this subside or is there another cause???

Brief Answer: Please, what is your body temperature? Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this deep seated abscess that needed surgery for treatment. I am however happy the cause of these symptoms was identified and managed accordingly. I would normally expect that the chills should disappear after the surgery and more so because you did not have any signs of a possible complication or treatment failure after the surgery. I am some what surprised when you mention that the sweats have persisted ever since. Though the intensity has decreased, I will like you to provide me with what your temperatures readings are during these night sweats. If the temperature is normal, then I will say there is no immediate need to worry but monitoring closely just in case any new symptoms should set in. If your temperatures are not normal, then there should be something that we are missing here and I will suggest that your doctors take another look at this. For now, I will like to get the temperature readings and we would continue from. We would either choose to continue monitoring or to investigate for a cause right away. I hope this helps and provides a plan on how we shall approach this problem. Thank you for using our services and do feel free to ask for clarification and more information should need be. I wish you well and hope to hear from you on the temperature readings. Dr. Ivo, MD.
