default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I seem to have an abscess in my mouth I though perhaps it was a tooth that broke by (i know) chewing on ice. However is it not the tooth where the pain is but more on the side of my gum

Brief Answer:
visit hospital & get an appointment for a dentist

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. In your case there could be quite a few causes. First it could be abscess and Second, tooth cavity. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get an appointment for a Dentist. He will examine you thoroughly and then will plan further workup. Meanwhile i would suggest following things:

- Brush your teeth every time after taking food to avoid food particles get trap.
- Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles (mouth wash) with it three times a day. It will give soothing effect.
- Avoid touching that area repeatedly with finger or tongue to avoid spread.
- Lignocaine oral gel could be used to apply on that area of gum. It will give local anesthetic effect and reduce pain.
- Antibiotic therapy would be required but it needs prescription for which you need to visit hospital.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
