Question: Hi, i am 34, 5'4" height, 68kgs, I am diabetic and I am using insulin pump. Off late I have realised that left side of my under belly part there are dark spots and quite big ones and recently they have started growing more in numbers. I don't have much of belly fat but yes, I am 7 kegs over weights. Pls tell me is it something to worry or not.

Brief Answer:
acanthosis nigricans or fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to health care magic
I have a number of diabetic patients in my clinic and this is a very common

Looking at photographs you have sent this could be acanthosis nigricans or fungal infection of the groin

acanthosis nigricans has no treatment however losing weight may improve the skin appearance

i would like further information to help you better
does it itch or discharge,
since how long you have been diagnosed as diabetic?
what all medicines you are taking?

so you need not to worry at all if it doesn't bother you much

Hope i have answered your question
further queries are most welcome

Thanks a lot doctor, it itches slightly also it has lots of dryness. Also i have notice that it is spreading outer part of thigh, i have attached picture of it. I am diebetic from past 20 years, i take novorapid nisulin, 8-8-8 unit bolus three times a day with 17 unit basal, constant release. It looks more like some infection to me. Pls tell what do you think.

Also pls let me know if it is infection then if any medicine or oinment you can suggest.

Brief Answer:
Most likely a contact dermatitis or yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello
thanks for your reply
if it itches then it could be a fungal infection like candida or acanthosis nigricans with dryness of skin

in my opinion you should consult a dermatologist for antifungal as well as a good moisturising ointment

i would advise you to reduce body weight because it associates with obesity.
Take bath twice daily with an antiseptic soap and apply a moisturiser at least twice a day

Hope this answers your question

Brief Answer:
You need not to worry , it doesn't affect healthy and non diabetics

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

It's not contagious disease so generally it does not spread among healthy and non diabetic individuals

so you need not to worry about its spread
However it's always better to adopt good hygiene practices like washing hands with antiseptic soap and water before and after every food
