Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
Acanthosis nigricans is sometimes associated with insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is seen in conditions like obesity, steroidal treatment, Cushing syndrome, insulin receptor mutation, type 2 diabetes.
Fasting insulin was done to know if insulin resistance is there or not. Raised fasting insulin is also associated with many other conditions that may cause insulin levels to rise like insulinoma, some medicines, autoimmunity to insulin or its receptor.
Now the above is mostly medical jargon and nothing to be worried about. I have seen many people have acanthosis but have no other condition for atleast many years.
Regarding insulin resistance, we need to confirm if its diabetes or not. So please get fasting blood sugar levels done. Also drink cleaner water with TDS less than 20 ppm.
Regarding blackened skin, it can be lightened with sulphur ointment. It is available in various concentrations in pharmacies. Any concentration upto 10% is ok to be used on all skins except face. It may be applied overnight only on affected skin and washed off nicely in the morning. It can be done for 3 consecutive days. Dont apply any other cream during this time.
Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
