Suggest Treatment For Accidental Ingestion Of Concentrated Disinfectant

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Aug 2016
Question: I accidently drank a small amount of a concentrated disinfectant. (I was using it at concentrate on accident, its supposed to be mixed with a gallon of water but we didn't know it was concentrated). I ate it with ice cream on accident. The label says it can cause burns to digestive tract and be fatal. It has a pH balance of 12.4-13.4 should I be concerned about future problems? or would the digestive tract burns come from larger amounts. I probably had around an ounce and was diluted in the ice cream. Here's link to the safety facts http://proforcecleaners.com/docs/msds-lemon-eng.pdf

Brief Answer:
First 24 hrs is the most important phase..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX, Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Well the link you've provided isn't opening up as it's blocked by the internet protocol gateway, any way i've looked up to the product details of proforce cleaners and you're quite right about it as it's a highly corrosive mixture of alkali used in floor cleaning purposes..

Yes, undiluted accidental ingestion is highly fatal and life threatening as well as severely painful..

Now first of all, please note that if it's ingested recently then the first 24 hrs is the most vital phase when you've to keep yourself under strict observation and watch for any sudden severe burning sensation through out the abdomen, pain abdomen, nausea, vomiting, breathing difficulties and if any of those experienced then you shouldn't delay any more and simply go to your nearest ER /Urgent care for prompt management and appropriate decontamination therapy and further investigations..

Even though you've eaten it with ice-cream, if the quantity was more then you'd definitely need medical attention, but you've mentioned you've taken a small amount only with ice-cream, so it's definitely got further diluted (don't worry about mixing it with a gallon of water, as the mixing amount's much more compared to what you've consumed )..

So first of all, let me know when did it happen ?

How do you feel ?

Is there any other problems ?

Let me know these answers so that I can guide you more specifically..

Please don't try to induce any vomiting, as it'll only worsen the adverse effects further..

Awaiting for your response..

Take Care
Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
no it's not that serious but do get it checked if you experience any of those symptoms which i've already mentioned..

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear, Welcome Back,

Thanks for following up,

Now you don't need to worry if more than 48 hours passed by already as with your bowel activities, by this time most of it'll be excreted..

And the quantity is very less to actually cause any thing serious..

But if you experience any of those symptoms which i've already mentioned then please get yourself checked by your nearest ER/Urgent care for a further evaluation..

Let me know how you stay in the due course..let me know if you have any further concerns..

Take Care
kind Regards

Okay thank you, but now I am also worried that since we have been cleaning with it maybe we have accidentally done this to customers on accident. We have stopped using the cleaner after only using it for less than a month. the mixer was the only thing we used it on and there was usually only a spray on the mixer. Ugh I feel a lot of guilt right now for not knowing better about the cleaner....but we've never had a cleaner that needed diluted and it only says in small print on the back...
