Suggest Treatment For Acne Like Spots Under The Nose And Lower Lip
Question: Hello. I'm a 61 year old white female. I've never had problems with my skin until last year. I've broken out from under my nose to under my bottom lip with something that looks like acne. The NP at my doctor's office gave me fluticasone propionate cream to apply twice a day, which I have been doing for almost a year and an allergy medication, but nothing has changed. She didn't seem very confident about the treatment. The doctor Is never there. My Husband thinks it might be rosacea. I'm disabled and it's difficult to get to the doctor's office.
Brief Answer:
Application of clotrimazole cream can help
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I have checked the attached image. It is certainly not acne that you have got. Fluticasone is a mild steroid and not a treatment for acne. However I would insist you to continue it for a week or so. Do not use it for more than a week. Fluticason helps in reducing inflammation or local reaction.
Rosacea is a possibility. However, I find it less likely.
I would insist you to apply candid (clotrimazole) cream topically. I hope it would provide relief.
Let me know if I could help further.
Regards

Hello. You said to only use Fluticasone for a week, but I stated I've been using it for almost a year. Is that a problem? I used prescription clotrimazole cream 1% when I first started breaking out and it didn't do anything. I don't think it's rosacea, either, because my skin isn't dry. I've been watching everything I eat and how it reacts to it. The only thing that bothered it was some deep-fried shrimp about 6 months ago that I've not had since. The only change in oral medications at the initial breakout was I started Cymbalta. Everything else I'd been taking for years.
I'll try the Clotrimazole again. Do I use it while still on Fluticasone? Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
Stop fluticasone immediately
Detailed Answer:
Yes, using fluticasone or other topical steroids for more than a week is definitely problematic. Initially it makes the lesions go away fast but if you use it for long, it tends to decrease the local immunity and tends to make it come back faster. Using fluticasone continuously could actually be making it worse. I would insist you to stop immediately. I would insist you to try clotrimazole once again. I would also insist you to visit a dermatologist and get it evaluated. It is not ok to have such a lesion unresolved for more than a year.
I doubt if the shrimp had been the cause, but anyway. Unless you have been previously allergic to them I do not think that you need to be concerned.
Regards
