Suggest Treatment For Acute Myositis And Hyperthyroidism
Predmet is tapered depending upon response
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.Never discontinue or reduce the dose without checking with your physician.
Tapering or slowly lowering the dose of corticosteroids is essential to allow body to begin cortisol production on its own.To have smooth transition from higher dose to lower dose,it is recommended to start immunosuppressant drugs like Methotrexate/azathioprine as secondline medicines or used in combination with prednisone. This allows patients to taper off prednisone more quickly and avoid some of the unwanted effects.
The blood test that can guide us is CRP(C reative protein) level. From daily dose of prednisolone it can be given on alternate days. You should discuss about this with your doctor.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
It's difficult to predict exact time period
Detailed Answer:
Hello
You are welcome
I do understand your concern with the side effect but it's difficult to predict the exact time for recovery.Let me assure you 12mg is safe amount without much of serious side effects.
If even after 2 months of treatment on prednisone,
she is not able to walk around then her treatment needs to be reviewed.
My suggestions for her are-
1.Need to find out the cause for her myositis?
2.Get blood test done for creatinine kinase, complete blood count with CRP.
3.Add drug Methotrexate along with prednisone for early recovery.
You may discuss about these possibilities with your doctor/Rheumatologist.
Hope this answers your query.
