Suggest Treatment For Acute Watery Diarrhea In An Nfant

It could be viral diarrhea
Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. It seems your kid is having acute watery diarrhea. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhea. I suggest you use zinc supplements & ORS... Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
Kindly get back if your kid has got above mentioned problems.
For diaper rash you can mop with soft cotton cloth and apply Siloderm ointment for external application or use coconut oil.

1. Yes she is excessively sleepy and lethargic. Why is that? What should I worry about ?
2. Why did her anal opening opened up so much that she started bleeding?
Another that I forgot to mention in my initial question is that she had high fever in the beginning (104-105) but not anymore.
It could be dehydration and rectal prolapse
Detailed Answer:
Hi.... Thank you for your trust in me. Coming to your queries first -
1. If the kid is excessively sleepy and lethargic, it suggests dehydration and I urge to go to the nearest emergency room immediately to get the hydration status assessed by a paediatrician. She might require intravenous fluids.
2. Opening up of anal aperture and mild bleeding is common in severe diarrhoea and is called rectal prolapse. But usually it is self limiting.
3. High fever is common in viral diarrhoeas in the initial period and it requires only Paracetamol and no antibiotics at all. Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
But I am more concerned about the hydration status of the baby. Kindly consult the nearest emergency room as in suggested. Hope I have answered your queries. Please get back if anything else is there. Happy to help any time. Wishing your kid a speedy recovery.
With regards - Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
