Suggest Treatment For Adhesions And Diarrhea With Severe Cramping
I would like to see a doctor who could help me. I have had 4 c sections in my past, a radical hysterectomy, endometriosis, fibroid tumore and a gall bladder full of adhesions that had to be removed. my lower left quadrant is hurting again and I am having a hard time with constitpation so I'm taking meds for that and then getting diarrehea that feels like its killing me with the severe cramping and terring feeling. I would like some answers. He had a ct done and said he feels my problem is adhesions and I should learn to live with them.

Hi,
The top three differentials of left lower quadrant pain includes diverticulitis, ischemic cholitis and strictures. Diverticulitis and strictures can be diagnosed by CT Scan so i would prefer you get your reports of CT scan from a radiologist. Even ischemic colitis may also show some bowel edema on CT scan. However the diagnosis of ischemic colitis is based mostly on history. The patient usually has cardiovascular risk factors like obesity, smoking, Hypertension and cardiac disease may be some times . The classic clue is pain after eating so that these patients dont eat food anymore.
If any of this doesnt fit then it may infact be adhesions causing pain . it presents with constipation and on physical examination there is classically tympanitic abdomen. X ray shows dilated loops of bowel. Barium follow through shows abnormal strangulation of intestine. These findings suggest strictures. I suggest you do X ray and Ba follow through and get reports from radiologist. That would most likely diagnose adhesions for you.
If your symptoms are affecting your life, the treatment of adhesions is straight-forward. Patients undergo either laparoscopic or open surgery and the adhesions are cut by scalpel or electrical current (lyses). The problem is that adhesions have a tendency to reform, and some individuals have a propensity to form adhesions. Laparoscopic surgery results in fewer adhesions and, theoretically, is a better option; however, whether the adhesions are lysed at laparoscopic or open surgery, the inflammation caused by the process of cutting can result in recurrent adhesions.
If you are having open surgery, the adhesions chance can be significantly reduced by using a product called seprafilm. Please google for the surgeons in St XXXXXXX area, their addresses and appointment phone nos are given there. Hope this helps.

Thank-you Dr. XXXXXXX How do you convince a surgeon you would rather have the adhesions removed even if it is for a short time of relief than suffer all the time. This is my delimma I am getting very frustrated.
pain affecting quality of life is surgery indicati

Hi,
You can attach your CT scan as attachment, where you can add pics. Please know I am not myself a radiologist. I may be able to give you a preliminary description but not better than a radiologist. Hence the normal rule is to get a report from radiologist on stuff like this. As for surgeon, if you have been diagnosed with adhesions like I said they did those tests( Xray, Ba follow through) for you and are sure it is adhesions then you just have to tell them that the pain is affecting my quality of life, I can't bear it and I want it removed even if for a short time it may be helpful. As for your symptoms, you can not tell the diagnosis just based on it. Thank you
