Question: I have been on Prostap3 injections for 3 years. I have also had radiotherapy. My original PSA was 49 and XXXXXXX Score was 9. My PSA has been <0.1 for over 2 years since the radiotherapy. There is now a suggestion that we should discontinue the Prostap. What are the likely side effects?

Brief Answer: Yes you can discontinue it Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for your query. The treatment for locally advanced prostate cancer is radiotherapy with androgen deprivation therapy (by injections like prostap) for 2-3 years. You have completed this schedule with normal PSA for 2 years. Hence it is safe to discontinue it. There are no side effects of discontinuing but there is an unlikely chance of PSA increasing after several months to years. That can then be treated appropriately. There is no proven harm of stopping therapy now. Hope I have answered your query. I will be available to answer further followup queries, if any.
