Suggest Treatment For Allergic Rhinitis

Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I already consulted Dr. Paparaja S in this portal. He suggested me few medications. But I need second opinion on this. I attached my reports also.

I have been suffering from Cold since one month to 1.5 months. If I stay in A.C, Cold is getting worse. During night time, I am making some weird sounds. I consulted ENT doctor and he asked me to take CTScan. I attached this report in the attachment section.

After using some medicines (Levocitrigen, Montair -LC), I got some relief. But still I am making some weird sounds during night time to clear my nostrils.

I have consulted some doctor before. He confirmed that I have sinus problem and suggested me to go for minor surgery.

The doubts are

1. Do I have to go for minor surgery or is there any alternative solution to permanently cure the problem?
2. Is minor surgery permanent solution for sinus and is it recurrent again even after surgery?

Brief Answer:
nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

I have seen the reports you uploaded.

If a cold lasts for so long then you are probably suffering from allergic rhinitis (Allergy in the nose ).

Examination of the nose will confirm the diagnosis. it is not possible to come to the diagnosis of allergy by CT scan report.

Please see your doctor and request for a diagnosis

If it indeed turns out to be allergy then treatment is rather easy and simple. You will require anti histamines and anti leucotrine tablets and also a local steroid nasal spray. There is also a chance that there is concurrent sinus infection (according to CT scan) which will have to taken care of with appropriate antibiotics.

I feel that first you should get a diagnosis from the doctor before thinking about surgery. But frankly I will it is not be able to comment about the need for surgery without examination. Bit as a general rule we doctors always explore all non surgical lines of treatments first before considering surgery.

Brief Answer:
No need for any other medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hi and sorry for the delay in my response,

If your symptoms have reduced then there is no need for any further medication.

Keep doing steam inhalation 4 times daily and drink lots of warm fluids especially if you are spending long hours in air conditioned environment.
