Suggest Treatment For Altered Bowel Movements After Taking Dulcolax
Enema may help- maintain hydration - To ER if required
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, read and understood the history about your daughter.
Dulcolax contains Bisacodyl, which works by stimulating (irritating) action. Your daughter has hard, ball like stools. The action of Dulcolax in such condition can cause the symptoms of pain, cramping, nausea, fainting and light headed which your daughter has.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Maintain hydration- give her plenty of oral fluids, fruit juices, Electral powder in water.
If possible give her ready-made enema to facilitate expulsion of the hard stool.
Or take her to ER to be seen by the Doctor for checking vitals, local examination of abdomen, Soap-Saline or Soap-water enema. It is expected that expulsion of the hard stools will ease her pain and other symptoms. She can be given symptomatic treatment as required.
Plain X-ray of the abdomen can show how much the colon is loaded with fecoliths.
I hope this answer helps you to help your daughter. I can understand the pains your daughter must be going through. This is really one of the worst pains one can have.
Please feel to ask any further relevant queries or if you feel there is gap-of-communication.
For future:
She needs to have proper bowel training and never to take Bisacodyl (Dulcolax).
High fiber diet.
Avoid all the foods and beverages that you or daughter has noticed to give her constipation.
