Suggest Treatment For An Allergic Reaction To A Bug Bite
~2wks ago in my sleep I awoke to a legion/rash/bloody lump I had apparently inflicted by scratching overnight in my sleep. I am highly concerned as the itching is becoming unbearable, affecting daily life, and is not healing very well. I have a history of skin disorders including seborrhoeic dermatitis, hyperhidrosis, acne, and excessively dry skin. Please help as I am becoming increasingly concerned.
Rash might have been caused by insect bite, please see following advice...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history and the photo you provided carefully and can say as following:
1. The rash that made you waken up at night is due to possible insect bite. That would have caused an allergic reaction and it was itchy.
Scratching has kept the area itchy.
2. You have a personal history of many skin problems including seborrhoeic dermatitis, hyperhidrosis, and excessive dry skin.
The insect bite has caused allergic reaction. As your skin is susceptible to the above-mentioned problems; the itchy rash is still present.
3. I believe you might have used only OTC anti-hystaminic medication (e.g. Benadryl).
Now, if the rash is located only on that part, then, apart taking OTC anti-hystaminic medication, I advise to:
- keep the area well clean
- wash with warm water and soap
- rinse thoroughly
- dry it well
- apply betadine solution locally
- let it dry
- then, apply anti-hystaminic or cortisone lotion locally
Such rash might continue to up to 4 or 6 weeks after the first time appearance.
Hopefully, yours won't go for such long.
All the best!

from what I've seen, most likely due to insect bite...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
From what I've seen, and from the long duration of the itching, it seems to be due to insect bite.
Hopefully, it will end in a few more days.
All the best!
