Suggest Treatment For Anal Fistula And Abscess Near Rectum
Question: I was diagnosed with an anal fistula that tested positive for VRE late last year, resulting in surgery in March of 2014. (I had a large abscess drained initially and it continued to fill up, rupture, and repeat the same pattern - 9x before surgery)
The surgeon could not locate the source of the infection during surgery, despite cutting a large amount of tissue out, leaving me with an open incision of about 6" in length to heal. He gave me a 50/50 chance that it would recur.
7 months later, it appears that the fistula has returned (or never went away). An abscess has risen again and continues to rupture, draining fresh blood (right near the rectum).
I see the surgeon again on Monday after my GP ordered labs for the abscess that just ruptured again. This time there was nothing positive for VRE, but now I am positive for Group B Strep.
Does this likely confirm my suspicion that the bowel is involved? My thinking is that there is some link to the bowel that was missed.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Please post reports - fistulogram ?
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
I would like to know whether fistulogram was conducted ?
Was the specimen sent for Histo-pathological examination?
Was colonoscopy or any other investigations were done to see for the primary cause?
Please post all the relevant reports for me to see and help to get to the root cause and discuss about modalities for a permanent cure.
Recurrent abscess unless proved otherwise has to be considered as fistula.
We have to find out whether it is a low anal fistula or high anal fistula.
