Suggest Treatment For Anan Fissure

Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: Hi,

I had stomach upset and diarrhea 2 weeks back and from last week I am recovering. Doctor administered Orinidozle and Providac probiotics. I have almost recovered from stomach upset and eating well.

I also had constipation / thick stool during last week. I had pain in rectal while passing stool about 4 days back and now the pain has increased. Pain is only in rectal/anal opening and not anywhere. I saw few drops of blood while passing stool (in bright red color) yesterday. Now, I get pain (or burning sensation) in the opening while sitting and walking. The pain subsides in the morning / after sleep and starts once I pass the stool.

Please let me know initial diagnosis and possible treatment.

Brief Answer:
You have symptoms of anal fissure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

You are having symptoms of anal fissure.
Anal fissure is a condition is which there is a tear in the anal canal at the anal verge. It occurs when you are constipated. You have said you were constipated last week. Probably that might be the reason for your symptoms.

Individuals with fissures will have painful defecation, bleeding during defecation and burning sensation in the anal canal.

The treatment consists of the following -

1. Sitz bath - take lukewarm water in a tub and sit in it for 10 minutes twice a day with the anal part exposed to the lukewarm water.

2. Apply anovate cream twice a day after doing sitz bath

3. Take high fiber diet (lot of vegetables and fruits) and drink lot of fluids. You can also fiber supplements like cremadiet.

These will relieve the symptoms.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.R.K

Thanks for the answer.

How many days should it take to recover after using Anovate? I feel that there is pain in internal walls too. I would like to know how many days should I wait for symptoms to go away before doing physical examination with doctor.

Could this be piles or could this be developed as piles?

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As mentioned in my previous post, you are having fissure.
Fissure is different from piles. You might have an associated piles also as both fissure and piles occur due to constipation.

Once you start doing sitz bath and apply anovate you might have signs of relief immediately. For complete relief, you should have good bowel movements. It may take about a week for complete healing if you follow the advice correctly. You can consult a doctor if there is no relief even after one week.

I hope that answers your question.

Thanks again for the detailed answer.

I have started using the medication, but I have not seen any immediate improvements. My bowel movements are alright for last few days, I am just experiencing pain.

Like you said, I will observe for few more days then take a call based on that.

Thanks for the help.
