Question: Hello Dr. Grief, I get extremely shakey and i little confused When I haven't eaten in a couple of hours. I am anemic and suffer from major depression. I am on effexor 300mg, triazodone 75mg/night and now serequel every night as well. I believe 25mg. I am also on birth control. since being described serequel I have been bleeding between periods and it is worrying because of the anemia but I am in between doctors right now and haven't been able to make it to a clinic or emerg due to the amount of people waiting. I am wondering if you have any thoughts about these symptoms or mix of medications. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Probably caused by low blood sugars!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. They are suggestive of low blood sugars and consistent with persons who eat little. i am pretty convinced you o not eat much at once and would need to eat more often to make sure you maintain normal blood sugars so as not to have these symptoms.

Your medications, individually or collectively, cannot cause these symptoms. The combination is acceptable and not the problem here. Your feeding habit and frequency is the issue and you would need to get that addressed.

In all, eat increased quantities or more often to avoid similar episodes. Your drugs are not the problem.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
