Suggest Treatment For Anemia And Hypertension
Question: Hello,
My son is 23 years old, student, overweighed about 20 pounds. Thalassemia trait, therefore, has mild anemia.
Family history of hypertension, myself, my mother, my husband's mother.
On January 25, 2017 I checked his blood pressure at home, 160/91
I could not believe!
We both started healthy diet, low sodium, no candies, reduce carbs. He lost about 13 pounds in one month.
I am checking his blood pressure, not often because it cause his frustration. Every second day in the evening:
132/87
137/89
Today was 144/90
What extra step must be done to low his blood pressure without medication?
Can anemia be the factor for high BP?
I am very nervous!

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
I do understand your pain and discomfort.
As per your clinical history is concerned may I know have you checked his aldosterone and renin level in his blood?we advise patients who are hypertensive in low age before age 40 to ruled out primary aldosteronism. If renin level low and aldosterone level high, then consult with your endocrinologist.
Do exercise to control body weight and restrict sodium in diet
Finally, his anaemia can not be a factor for his high BP
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
As per your question and blood pressure history no organs is damaged so far. One thing happens in such cases that pressure increases despite taking medications and doing exercises regularly. So as he has blood pressure in margin so he has no complaint at all. So reduce weight and balance diet. Check BP every alternate day. Time to time check his FBS and TSH as well.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further clarifications, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
