Suggest Treatment For Anemia Due To Chronic Blood Loss
Question: I have a loss of blood somewhere, been going to Gastrinologist and taking Feosol Ferros Sulfate for several months, one daily 65mg. Recent blood drawn by Primary Care shows Iron 247 with comments "alert -high". I am female 85 yrs and healthy on no prescriptions. Also Ferritin 10 "low". Fecal Blood Occult "positive". My hemoglobin about two years ago went from 13 down 7. and had two units of blood. My hemo previously ran 13 with no problems. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and I have felt all my problems started after colonoscopy although the Gastr. Dr. disagrees. A few months after the colonoscopy I started with extreme shortness of breath, never had before and my blood pressure runs around 118 over 65 sometimes less.
Brief Answer:
Emergency treatment required
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
From the symptoms which you have described it is apparent to be case of anemia due to chronic blood loss leading to symptoms of early cardiac failure.
I would suggest the following
1. A physician consultation immediately.
2. You will need a few packed cell infusions to bring the hemoglobin levels to a base line of at least 10gms%.
3. A capsule endoscopy will help immensely in identifying the source of bleeding.
You need to be hospitalized till all your symptoms are relieved taking into consideration your advanced age.
I hope this answers your query.
Regards
