Question: I have a friend who thinks she has worms under her skin on her face and her ankles are swollen. She is also being treated with antibiotics for urinary tract infection. She also has what looks like broken hairs in her finger tips kind of like splinters. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
It could be malnutrition

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although it is not possible to comment without physically examining patient but following are possibilities.
1. Malnutrition- Low haemoglobin can explain ankle and facial swelling and can cause brittle nails. It is possible that malnutrition is caused by worm infestation and it may be true to have worms under skin.
2. Liver disorders
3. Renal problems
4. Thyroid disorders.

In my opinion she needs to get through evaluation from a qualified health professional in her city as the symptoms indicate seriousness of problem.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
