Suggest Treatment For Anxiety Disorder And Panic Attacks
About 3 months ago I experienced my first panic attack while I was shopping, my primary care doctor said it was because i had drank too much while on vacation. However now i keep having panic attacks for no reason even though i am not drinking any more. My friend mentioned that i may have a condition called panic disorder and after researching what panic disorder was I fit all the symptoms. Constant fear of having another panic attack, feeling like I'm about to having a heart attack all the time, fear of eating certain foods that might cause a panic attack, not drinking alcohol anymore because it might cause a panic attack, agoraphobia because i fear i might have an attack in public. How the hell do I get rid of this. I am very health person, 6'4" 195lbs...Ive been taken to the ER where they've done advanced blood work on me, had me wear heart monitors, CT Scans on my chest etc and everything came back normal. HELP! These are the worst feelings ever! I want to be off xanax completely and get back to normal. What do i do to cure Panic Disorder??

Hello dear
Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query
I understand your concern and sorry to hear about your problem.
Every symptom you describe is suggestive of Panic disorder.
It cause constant worrying about having another attack, heart is beating very fast, fear of eating specific food and fear of heart attack.
Normal cardiac tests confirm that you have panic disorder.
It is a treatable condition so do not worry.
In the short term management, benzodiazepines like ativan, klonpin, xanax will help to keep you calm during the attack.
But xanax cause rebound anxiety. So ativan and klopin are better choice compared to xanax.
In long term management, SSRI drugs like peroxetine/ escitalopram will help.
It will help to prevent the panic attack.
Full effects of antidepressant will occur after 4-6 week.
Exercise, meditation and relaxation will helpful.
This is my personal opinion based on available information.
Consult authorized psychiatric and take proper treatment
Hope I have answered your query

I have been taking xanax for the past 3 months as needed for these panic attacks and obviously i want to be off all medication. My biggest fear in life is dying so when these attacks started coming on it triggered this horrible fear that I was going to have a heart attack and die. I have been in the ER three different times. The panic attacks make it so hard to relax that I can't take it. I even woke up at 3am last night having a panic attack!
I will start working out more and heating healthier to see if this helps. Thanks for helping my out Dr. XXXXXXX it is much appreciated.

Hello dear
Welcome back and thanks for the follow up
I understand your concern
Rebound anxiety: It is the relative worsening of symptoms on discontinuation of XANAX as compared to baseline symptoms.
XANAX has short half life so it leaves the system quickly and can cause rebound anxiety.
It can occur after Abrupt discontinuation of XANAX.
Incidence rate is around 25-30% in abrupt withdrawal cases.
XANAX can be useful while the antidepressant is building up in your system.
But at present you need psychiatric consultation.
All the symptoms will disappear after the proper treatment.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help you. This helps you examine your anxiety and work through it more effectively.
I would suggest to consult the nearest authorized psychiatric doctor and start the treatment.
This is my personal opinion based on available information.
