Suggest Treatment For Anxiety Disorder

I am a 50 year od woman and generaly feel fit and well. I rarely get any illnesses and do not have any medical conditions, however, I do have periods when I feel very anxious and panicky. When I feel like this I can become quite irrational and emotional and can also feel really low and sad although I know I have nothing to be sad about. I worry a lot. I have always been like this but I seem to be getting worse. My periods are still regular. Can you suggest anything which would help me feel better?
Medicines and relaxation exercises will help
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I read your query and can understand your concern regarding your symptoms.
You seem to be suffering from some sort of anxiety disorder. You tend to worry about things that you know is not worth worrying but can't stop from doing so. This leads to development of anxiety which might result in symptoms like palpitations, restlessness, and even sweating and tremors.
Since you have mentioned that this is getting worse, I thing you should seek a psychiatric consultation without further delay. In you case medications like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (sertraline or paroxetine) would be effective. You should also start exercising daily. It will help you feel relaxed and control your anxiety. Trying relaxation techniques like deep breathing and meditation also will be helpful.
I do hope that I was able to help you with your problem. Please feel free to ask any further query that you might have.
Best wishes,
Dr. Sunil Gupta
