Suggest Treatment For Arthritis In The Hands

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jan 2017
Question: I have arthritis in my hands and have had for a few years. I have not been taking any medication on a regular basis. I was told a few years ago that I did not have the crippling kind. However, in the last year I have a couple fingers that have begun to twist a little. Is there medication I can take to slow this down, or exercises I could do to help the discomfort?

Brief Answer:
Exercise not really, medications listed for your reference ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. There are medications available which can prevent progression to a certain extent, but in my opinion these medications should have been initiated much earlier to prevent the presentation you are currently experiencing.

A list of some of the most commonly used medications are:

+Chloroquine
+Penicillamine
+Amiodarone
+Gold salts
+Leflunomide
+Infliximab
+Methotrexate
+Sulfonamides

All these medications are available only with a prescription ma'am. I would either way be more comfortable if you would be examined by a doctor before either of these medications can be initiated. To be very honest, we may not be able to reverse the current progression, but the initiation of therapy can certainly help prevent or slow down progression.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
