Suggest Treatment For Astrocytoma
I hear how there are many ways to fend off cancers with exercise, foods, and other healthy habits, however; if a type of cancer is germline can it be fought off naturally with exercise and diet? I have an astrocytoma which is found to be the result of the IDH1 mutation and I eat as best I can and exercise but it seems to me it would be ineffective as it is written into the DNA and the body does not identify it as an abnormality or infection. I'm not asking if I could be a lazy glutton but is there benefits to specific healthy actions and if so are there specific ones I should conduct regularly?
Genetic predisposition is not altered by diet and exercise
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome,
I appreciate your concern,
Genetic predisposition or a positive family history cannot be fended off by exercise, diet or healthy habits, alone. In some cases like breast and colon cancer, effective screening that catches the neoplasm early can result in marked benefit. Each malignancy is a different subset. The one you mentioned, Astrocytoma, doesn't have any specific prevention that has shown any such benefit that would lead to a decreased incidence.
Healthy habits have an advantage , generally and not just in preventing or minimizing morbidity associated with malignancies.
The healthy habits are simple. Eat well, avoid too much refined/processed food, exercise regularly, avoid alcohol and smoking. Ensure proper 6 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
