Suggest Treatment For Atopic Dermatitis
Question: Hello Doctor,
My girl kid 4 years old having atopic dermatitis since birth. as advised by pediatrician we gave the following medicines, Lycor 1% for initial period (6 months to 1 year). The itching and redness reduced but after 6 months it came back the docotor suggested to give Atonide alongwith Dermadew Aloe lotion. as we used this medicine from last 3 years without this medicine my kid not getting recover. As we are not aware this medicine contains Steroid. Now my kid all over body becomes white patches and its very difficult us to see. Could you please suggest the good medicine which doesn't have steroid and get her recover from itchiness and rashes.

Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns but don't worry. The hypopigmented patches on skin after long term use of steroids are due to reduced melanin production and it improves once steroids are stopped.
I would recommend you to start her on Tacrolimus ointment application in the morning and Lycor 1% application in the evening for next 2 weeks.
Thereafter stop lycor and continue with Tacrolimus twice daily for next 2-4 weeks till the lesions improve.
Then taper the frequency of Tacrolimus to once daily for a month followed by once on alternate days for 1-2 months. Hopefully this will completely improve the lesions.
Thereafter continued application of a good moisturiser such as Dermadew aloe lotion will be fine.

Hello Doctor,
I forgot mention from last 3 weeks we are using Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. After using this cream rashes has been come down but hypopigmented patches are still present also itchiness is there some time specially at night time.
Is this okay to use Tacrolimus ointment along with Aveeno Baby Eczema cream?
Is there any food restrictions we have follow as she is not showing any interest to take food. also her growth not good when compare to other same age kids. Is this because of using steroids?
Please suggest.

If she has shown improvement with aveeno then continue it 2-3 times daily. The itching will improve once the skin heals. Use tacrolimus if lesions flare up in future.
Hypopigmented patches will improve gradually as I told earlier.
Diet supplementations with evening primrose oil and an omega-3 fatty acid (docosahexaenoic acid) are found useful in some patients.
Steroid is not the cause of poor growth in her. She will improve once disease improve along with good healthy diet and plenty of fluids.
